Trading is a gameplay element in Banished, which allows you to exchange resources with merchants at the Trading Post.

There are several types of traders, which only deal in certain goods. Only general merchants and food merchants will accept food items, though all traders accept most resources. Seeds will only be carried by general merchants and seed merchants. Goods can be requested from merchants at the Trading Post, though those goods will cost more than had they not been requested. Requests may only be made with a merchant at the post, and it will take another visit from the same trader to bring the goods, not simply the next merchant.
